What You Find Out Wandering The Neighborhood

11 May

Today I slept late until around 9 and I’m having a little trouble remembering what I did after that. I know I was on the internet a little bit. Hmmm…

Good thing I started taking that yummy Omega-3 formula. I hear it’s good for your brain cells. Just got it yesterday so I’m sure it probably has a cumulative effect after a couple months or so. I wasn’t kidding about the yummy part. I like the Lime sorbet flavor. Anyway…

After doing “something” when I got up, I went out for just a little while to check out garage sales and check in with people I’ve met at garage sales in recent weeks. George on Rock Springs wasn’t home, but Alice over near Borden was there. After her big dog barked up a storm we chatted for a couple minutes about potential fundraising for a non-profit. She’s a manager for Community Catalysts of California. Read about that in my April 20 post.

Finally I ran into Maria and Maria Elena(?) on Palomar and someone’s little one, Samantha, sold me some oranges. I told Samantha that she had the same name as my niece, who graduated from SDSU, and who wants to be a doctor.

They told me that next week the homes in Vallecitos are all having garage sales at the same time. And they didn’t have any coins for me.

Hopefully we can have an even bigger “Garage Sale Day” in late September or early October. Right now the voting is leaning heavily towards October 5.

If you would like to participate, please contact me on Facebook or give me a call. Or you can leave me a comment on this post with your phone number and a good time to call you. You can find MY number on my Facebook public figure page. Check the right side of this blog or follow this link.

Who wants to help me coordinate this? Or the potluck? I mentioned that last week.

You’re just going to have to scroll down and find that post!

Almost forgot!

I spoke with Guillermo Cortes at Mr. Taco this morning when my wife and I were having breakfast there. THAT’S what I did before 11! LOL

He is the owner of Mr. Taco and if you don’t know where it is, it’s across from Cal State San Marcos in the same shopping center as Ralph’s, the UPS store, Pet People, Prime Cut Grill and so much more.

You might remember what I call “The World’s Smallest Newsletter!” – Neighborly Suggestions. It’s small enough to fit on your refrigerator. Refrigerator Ready!

Issue #2 is coming out soon and on the back will be something from Mr. Taco. I think it’s going to be a coupon. I don’t know if it will be ready for next Saturday, but I’ll be knocking on your door soon.

You’ll be neighborly when I come to your door, right?

Saturday In My Neighborhood

4 May

My wife let me sleep in until around eight this morning and got me up to go to L.A. Fitness with her. That gave me a chance to try out my new fat-burning bar while I’m on the treadmill. You want to eat it on an empty stomach 15 minutes before you work out to get the maximum fat-burning results. Today was the first day that I’ve done it exactly right. Without it I would just be getting an aerobic workout on the treadmill. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me. Patents and everything.

Anyway, after a nice, hot shower my wife went to San Diego to see a family friend and I decided to check out some garage sales and let people know about my plans for a community garage sale in late September or early October. Right now I’m hearing from several people that October 5 is best because it’s right after payday. Sounds logical. I’ll put up a poll in a few weeks so we can vote.

Something else that makes sense is a neighborhood/community potluck 4-6 weeks before. I’ll start sending out emails sometime in the next few days. If you see me knock at your door or you meet me at a garage sale, please give me your contact information so I can add you to the list.

While visiting four garage sales I met some great people like Sondra who’s originally from England. She was having her last garage sale (along with some neighbors) to benefit breast cancer research. Whatever was left she was going to give to Goodwill. Sounds like it was the last one she’s going to do for a long while, maybe ever. Anyone else want to take up the mantle?

After talking for a little while with Mario I found out that he’s in life insurance and real estate and has an office near the 78. Jack and Jill have two kids and met when they were 15. Now they have a 15 yr old themselves. And yes, Jack and Jill are really their names.

Finally, Erika Sosa was in charge at the garage sale that she and her honey shared with their next door neighbors. They thought a potluck would be a good idea, too.

And I’m writing this while relaxing and watching the SyFy Channel show Defiance. Science fiction is a family tradition. So is enjoying the neighborhood.
