What You Find Out Wandering The Neighborhood

11 May

Today I slept late until around 9 and I’m having a little trouble remembering what I did after that. I know I was on the internet a little bit. Hmmm…

Good thing I started taking that yummy Omega-3 formula. I hear it’s good for your brain cells. Just got it yesterday so I’m sure it probably has a cumulative effect after a couple months or so. I wasn’t kidding about the yummy part. I like the Lime sorbet flavor. Anyway…

After doing “something” when I got up, I went out for just a little while to check out garage sales and check in with people I’ve met at garage sales in recent weeks. George on Rock Springs wasn’t home, but Alice over near Borden was there. After her big dog barked up a storm we chatted for a couple minutes about potential fundraising for a non-profit. She’s a manager for Community Catalysts of California. Read about that in my April 20 post.

Finally I ran into Maria and Maria Elena(?) on Palomar and someone’s little one, Samantha, sold me some oranges. I told Samantha that she had the same name as my niece, who graduated from SDSU, and who wants to be a doctor.

They told me that next week the homes in Vallecitos are all having garage sales at the same time. And they didn’t have any coins for me.

Hopefully we can have an even bigger “Garage Sale Day” in late September or early October. Right now the voting is leaning heavily towards October 5.

If you would like to participate, please contact me on Facebook or give me a call. Or you can leave me a comment on this post with your phone number and a good time to call you. You can find MY number on my Facebook public figure page. Check the right side of this blog or follow this link.

Who wants to help me coordinate this? Or the potluck? I mentioned that last week.

You’re just going to have to scroll down and find that post!

Almost forgot!

I spoke with Guillermo Cortes at Mr. Taco this morning when my wife and I were having breakfast there. THAT’S what I did before 11! LOL

He is the owner of Mr. Taco and if you don’t know where it is, it’s across from Cal State San Marcos in the same shopping center as Ralph’s, the UPS store, Pet People, Prime Cut Grill and so much more.

You might remember what I call “The World’s Smallest Newsletter!” – Neighborly Suggestions. It’s small enough to fit on your refrigerator. Refrigerator Ready!

Issue #2 is coming out soon and on the back will be something from Mr. Taco. I think it’s going to be a coupon. I don’t know if it will be ready for next Saturday, but I’ll be knocking on your door soon.

You’ll be neighborly when I come to your door, right?

What Happens Here?

27 Feb

Today I looked up practical in a thesaurus and found a favorite phrase that means the same thing – nuts and bolts.

Are there nuts and bolts things we can improve in our neighborhoods?

I believe 99% of people would answer yes.

This is beyond politics.

If you think the street you live on needs repair, it doesn’t matter what political party you belong to or if you’re an independent.

If you want your neighborhood to be easier to walk in or there are streetlights that need repair or construction has been going on for way to long, these are not directly linked to one political philosophy.

These are common sense – NUTS AND BOLTS – issues that affect your neighborhood.

If someone is having a garage sale and wants to invite the neighborhood, I consider that a nuts and bolts event in your neighborhood.

What are we NOT going to discuss here?

If you think you need to talk to a neighbor about whether or not they are following the neighborhood rules, that’s not a subject for this blog.

Be a mature person and speak to that person at a reasonable time or make an appointment to speak to them as two mature adults.

Do NOT rant and rave about a neighbor on this blog.

DO be positive as much as possible in how you state things.

Seek solutions. Brainstorm.

What ELSE will be here?

I may let people in my neighborhood know that certain products are on special in local stores.  I myself actually purchase some products over the internet and if anyone wants to talk to me in person about that then we can set something up.

Here’s one now:

I found Tide on sale at Vons on El Norte Parkway in Escondido on February 26, 2013. If you are part of Vons Club you can get the SALE price of 18.99 for 96 loads of HE detergent.

If you would like to contribute to this blog by adding your input, we can talk about that in person or on the phone if you are far away.

Lastly, this blog is sincere and I’m not interested in fighting those with radically different views.  We can get along here. If you really, really don’t like it here, go elsewhere.

Have a nice day. 🙂
